Hustlin’ Owls Break the Tie, Win CCC Tournament in Dramatic Fashion

EUGENE, OR — The #2 (19) Oregon Tech Men's Soccer team (17-1-2) claimed the outright Cascade Collegiate Conference Title presented by U.S. Bank, in dramatic fashion on Friday afternoon. Sophomore defender Brock Rideout redirected a ball inside the box past Warner-Pacific's keeper for the golden goal victory. The goal came in the 103rd minute for Tech who downed the #1 seeded Warner Pacific Knights (16-3-2) 2-1 in double victory at Civic Park.

Going into Friday's Conference Championship match, there was a tie to be broken.

In the regular-season finale, Tech and Warner-Pacific played to a 1-1 draw to share the regular-season conference title.

However, it was Warner-Pacific who won the tiebreaker to get the automatic bid to Nationals, based on goal differential.

With revenge on their mind, and having claimed the second national bid by making the title match, Tech came into Friday's match with a lot of energy.

Just 14 minutes into the match, Anthony Santillan turned and fired an absolute rocket past the Knights keeper to put the Hustlin' Owls up 1-0.

The goal for Santillan, deemed by some as Tech's "puskas" goal of the season sent the senior into pure bliss as he stormed towards his sideline to celebrate.

Just moments after Santillan's goal, the Knights drove down the pitch and earned a penalty kick with a chance to tie the match.

Fortunately for the Owls, they were on the right side of a missed penalty kick in their match vs Warner this time.

Knights forward Miguel Andalon-Ordaz stepped up the spot, but skied the penalty to keep Tech's lead intact.

The next 61 minutes featured resolute defending from each side, with each side getting a few chances, but nothing that would alter the match.

In the 78th minute though, Warner-Pacific got that match-changing chance.

The Knights pinged a ball into the box and after it pin-balled around, Sunjoon Tenorio redirected it past Owls goalkeeper Joel Witts to tie the match.

With the match level at one apiece, once again the Knights and Owls would need overtime to decide the match.

After an uneventful first overtime period, Brock Rideout left no doubt as he redirected a ball into the far corner to win the conference title for Tech.

Tech and their supporters in attendance stormed the pitch and celebrated Tech's first conference championship at midfield.

The victory for Tech gives them momentum heading into the NAIA Opening Rounds that will begin on November 18th.
