PORTLAND Ore. - #21 Oregon Tech (14-2) their third straight regular season conference title on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Warner-Pacific (4-11). The victory for Tech guarantees them a spot in the NAIA National Tournament, locking up the CCC'S 1st Auto Bid.
"An unbelievable accomplishment by these young women today," said head coach
Casey Tate. "I couldn't be more proud of the group. This year was a very difficult schedule and the girls got it done. As a program to win three straight conference championships is an unbelievable feat and a credit to these players and the players and staff before us. We need to continue to work hard and prepare for the conference tournament but tonight we celebrate this huge accomplishment."
After being held scoreless for the first 27 and a half minutes, Tech scored the breakthrough in the 28th minute.
Kiah Wetzell went through unassisted, slotting the ball past the Warner-Pac goalie to put Tech up 1-0.
However, the Owls lead would only last for about 14 minutes, as the Knights were able to equalize on an error from the Tech keeper, the ball slipped through the her hands and the score would be tied at 1 at the half.
In the second half, it was the
Nyah Kendall show.
Kendall bagged a brace by scoring in the 48th and 82nd minute to seal the conference title up for Oregon Tech,
Tech finished the match having outshot the Knights 20-6, while dominating the bulk of possession.
The victory for Tech sends them straight through to the NAIA National Tournament.
The victory also seals the No. 1 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Tech will be back in action for that conference tournament match on November 9th.
