Oregon Tech Baseball Concludes Recruiting Class with Seven Transfers

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Oregon Tech head baseball coach
Jacob Garsez announced today his final group of recruits for the 21-22 baseball season; all seven are transfers.
"As a staff, we put a lot of time into identifying what transfer players fit our program well," said Garsez. "We feel strongly that we have a great group of returners, and this group compliments them very well. It is a high character group, that we expect will compete in all ways and will make our roster stronger. This fall has been about coming together to continue to build our culture of excellence and this group is playing an important role."
Brodie Marino is a 5-11 catcher from Castle Rock, Colorado and Regis Jesuit High School. Marino transfers to OIT from South Mountain Community College where he received First Team Academic Honors; Stats: .227 Avg, .470 SLG, 4 HR, and 4 2B's.
"Brodie is a leader and has made an immediate impact. We love his demeanor and toughness behind the plate and with some continued improvement he can be a very successful hitter. He is another high academic player with great character," said Garsez.
Marino is the son of Mark and Kerrie Marino and is an electrical engineering major at OIT.
Matt Ortiz is a 6-0 infielder from Garden Grove, California and attended Pacifica High School in California. As a junior Ortiz was named to All-Empire League First Team after hitting .387 with five doubles and as a senior, he was named to Preseason All-America California Region and Empire League Senior All-State Team. Matt transfers to Oregon Tech from Washington State University.
"Matt projects very well in all areas of the game. We anticipate that he contributes successfully in our infield this year and he projects well at the top of the order. We are excited to have a player of Matt's potential and character in our program," said Garsez.
Matt is the son of Juan and Denise Ortiz and is a communications major.
Adam Jacques is a 5-10 infielder from Bellevue, Washington and Interlake High School. Jacques is transferring form Tacoma Community College. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 38th round of the 2018 MLB Draft; 2020 stats: .273 AVG, .360 OBP
"Adam is very fundamental in the infield and brings an advanced understanding of infield play. Definitely a gamer on the offensive end. High character player, that we believe can continue to make great strides… we look forward to his future."
Sean Tobin is a 6-0 shortstop from Grants Pass, Oregon and Grants Pass High School. He transfers to OIT from Lassen Community College where he was a Golden Valley 2nd Team All-conference shortstop who hit .288.
"Sean is tough, he comes from a solid program that teaches toughness. He makes the routine play as well as any junior college player I have seen at shortstop. Another high academic player, with great character."
Tobin is the son of Mark and Evie Tobin and is a medical imaging major.
Jacques is a psychology major and is the son of Silva Jacquesova and Eric Jacques.
Cooper Way is a 5-9 utility player from Glendora, California and Charter Oak High School. He transfers to the Owls from Chaffey College. His 2020 stats: .286 AVG, 4 2B's, and .373 OBP. Way did not play in 2021 due to COVID-19.
"Cooper is a tough, high character player. He is a strong and his strength plays. He is the type of player that will definitely help us and we look forward to his growth," Garsez said.
Way is the son of Matt and Jen Way and is a business major at Oregon Tech.
Dylan Short is a 5-11 outfielder from Klamath Union High School in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Short transfers to Tech from College of the Redwoods where he was Golden Valley 2nd Team-All Conference Outfielder. Stats: .342 AVG, .432 OBP, .479 SLG, 3 2B's, 2 3B's, and 1 HR.
Garsez said, "Dylan is the type of player that puts in work on his own time and is a high character guy that brings athleticism to our outfield."
Short is the son of Roseanne Reinecke and Charlie Short and is a marketing major.
Matt Macias is a 5-11 player from Fullerton, California and Troy High School. He comes to Oregon Tech from Compton College.
Garsez said, "Matt has high character and is a strong player. He has shown some pop to all fields. We like his projection with the bat and look forward to his continued development."
Macias is the son of Margaret and Enrique Macias and is an operations management major.
