LINCOLN, Calif. – The Oregon Tech (2-6) baseball team dropped a pair of close games playing at No. 14 William Jessup (9-2) Friday afternoon.
Emmett Covello and
Josh Overstreet both hit their first home runs of the year but it wasn't enough as Tech fell 4-2 Frida to #14 William Jessup in game 1 and then 8-3 in game 2 at McBean Park
Game 1 - #14 William Jessup 4 Oregon Tech 2
Covello homered in the 3
rd with Overstreet homering in the 4
th to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. That lead ended in the 5
th as freshman Joseph Luevano hit his homer of the year, a 3-run shot in the 5
th to give the home team a 3-2 lead. The Warriors would add an insurance run in the 8
th to win 4-2.
For the game the Owls had an 8-to-5 edge in hits led by Covello who was 2-for-4 in the game.
Tech's
Zach Scherman was solid on the hill for the Owls as he struck-out seven Warriors giving up just 5-hits and the 4-earned runs. Scherman was the tough luck loser slipping to 1-1 on the bump on the year.
Game 2 William Jessup 8 Oregon Tech 3
The Warriors jumped-out to an early lead as they scored four runs in the bottom of the first. Tech had many opportunities but left 9 runners on base during the 7-inning game. The Owls rallied for 2-runs in the top of the 7
th but left the bases loaded as Warriors held on for the 8-3 win.
Alex Malcolm,
Andy Schubert and Covello led the Hooter with two hits each in the loss.
Trask Telesmanich was hit with the loss, dropping him to 0-2 on the year. He gave up 8-hits, 6-earned runs with 7-strike outs.
These two teams will meet gain on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 am.
