KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Two hundred and forty-four days after the 2020 NAIA winter championships and all spring sports were shut-down due to Covid-19, Oregon Tech will finally see a team officially compete. Both cross country teams will start the regular season this Friday at the Bushnell Open at Middlefield Golf Course in Cottage Grove, OR.

The Oregon Tech women started the year nationally ranked at the No.16 position in the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll. Unfortunately for the Owls, just a few weeks later in the first NAIA regular-season ranking, Oregon Tech, along with #1 College of Idaho and #13 Lewis-Clark State, were all dropped from the Top 25 due to the fact that nobody in the conference had yet to compete. The next NAIA poll will be released on Nov. 19.

The Owl women are young, scrappy, and hungry to improve on their 15th place finish at nationals a year ago; there are no seniors on the squad but plenty of talent.  The women look to have a tight pack in the front of most races this season.  With a strong returning group of Delani Dietrich, Faith Widman, Hannah Mason, McKenzie Morgan and Mia Smith, all with national experience, they will be joined by Chico State transfer Kela Leamy and freshmen Jade Hopkins, Shannon McKinzie and Mackenzie Peterson.

"We are very excited to get this opportunity to compete," said head coach Jack Kegg. "It has been almost a year since the Owls have competed in cross country.  We will have to work hard to get back in the national polls, I think that our teams are up to the challenge and are ready to make the most of this opportunity."

The men have a very strong squad of 15 for this season, returning 9 of last year's ten along with 6 very good new recruits.   Three time All-American Mark French will lead the men with a cast of 8 or so close on his heels.  Returners Chris Ramirez, Jonas Hartline, Victor Rios, Nick McMillen, Joe Wilkinson, Brent Hunter along with freshmen Gage Reed and Ko Akabori will be in the chase pack along with the rest of the team: Isaac Bailey, Maxwell Cox, Jacob Harvey, Alejandro Quinonez, and Dylan Woodward.
