#10 Owls Fall at #4 Southern Oregon

ASHLAND -- Gabby Sandoval broke another Cascade Conference record with her 13th shutout of the season in steering top-seeded Southern Oregon (44-7) to a 6-0 win over second-seeded Oregon Tech (39-14) on Saturday at University Field, making the Raiders the last unbeaten left at the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank.

"That was a tough loss today as we pitched pretty good but made too many errors," said Head Coach Greg Stewart. "SOU is too good a team to give them any extra outs like we did and we just never got any momentum. I know our team will bounce back and battle tomorrow and play like they are capable of performing."

Oregon Tech will now play an elimination game 11 a.m. Sunday against College of Idaho who downed Corban 4 -2 on Saturday in an elimination game. Because the Raiders already secured the CCC's first automatic spot in the 40-team NAIA Opening Round, the second will go to the other tournament finalist. After the Yotes and Owls play for that spot at 11 a.m., the winner would need to defeat SOU twice for the tourney championship.

Sandoval's three-hitter sent the fourth-ranked Raiders to Sunday's title round for the third consecutive season. The offense got her two runs in the third and four more in the fourth, taking some help from four Owls errors.

Hannah Shimek went 2-for-3 with a triple, two RBI and a run scored, Lauren Quirke drove in two runs and Paige Leeper went 2-for-4 to lead the Raiders.
