Owls Split with Yotes

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. -  In battle for second place in the Cascade Conference standings it was No.12 Oregon Tech (33-12, 19-4 CCC) and College of Idaho (33-9, 18-5 CCC) splitting a doubleheader Friday (3-1 CI game 1, 3-0 OIT game 2) at the new John and Lois Stilwell Stadium. The result leaves the Owls one game ahead of the Yotes heading into tomorrow's decisive third and final conference game of the series as game two Saturday will be a non-conference matchup.

Coach Greg Stewart said, "Today's games featured back to back pitching duels by both teams. The difference was simply two big hits from C of I in game 1 and two big hits from us in game 2. Ali and Sarah both pitched great with Jacey calling great games behind the plate."

Game 1 College of Idaho 3 Oregon Tech 1

Sophomore Taylor Eakle lifted a two-run home run to right field breaking-up a 1-1 tie in the top of the seventh inning giving College of Idaho 3-1 game one win. Senior Colette Robert was stellar as she improved to 17-2 on the year with her complete game 8-hitter in the circle.

An RBI single by Tech's Logan Nunes gave OIT the 1-0 lead in the second, that lead would hold until Marissa Maddox broke-up Ali Graham's perfect game in the fifth inning with a solo home run to centerfield, her 10th of the year tying the game at 1-1. Eakle's then delivered the big two-run homer in the 7th giving the Yotes the game win.

Graham only gave up five-hits but was the hard luck loser slipping to 12-6 on the year.

Olivia Lethlean, McKenna Armantrout, and Nunes had three hits to lead OIT in the loss.

Game 2 Oregon Tech 3 College of Idaho 0

Sarah Abramson threw a complete game three-hit shutout, striking out 10-batters to improve to 16-4 on the year for the Owls while Dre Sotelo blasted her 11-home-run of the season a two-run blast in the fifth inning.

A Jacey Conklin RBI triple in the second inning scored Nunes with the Owls first run.

For the game the Hooter were led by Conklin, Armantrout and Graham with two-hits each.

Trystin Crofts had two of the Yotes three hits in the game two loss.

Saturday's doubleheader is scheduled to start at 11:00 am with Oregon Tech honoring its seven seniors (Jacey Conklin, Shayna Ige, Loryn Williams, Dre Sotelo, Ali Graham, Kiahna Brown, and Cierra Barkis) in between games.
