No. 13 Oregon Tech Sweeps Beacons

EUGENE, Ore. -  No. 13 Oregon Tech (26-10, 12-3 CCC) finished off a four-game sweep of Northwest Christian (6-21, 3-12 CCC) as the Owls extended their win streak to eight games with a 5-3 (11-innings) and 11-1 wins at James Park.

"Anytime you come away with four wins on a road trip, I'm happy," said Head Coach Greg Stewart. "All three pitchers threw well today and we battled through some early missed opportunities in game one to show our teams fighting character."

Game 1 – Oregon Tech 5 Northwest Christian 3

Dre Sotelo hit a two-run double in the 11th and Sarah Abramson threw her second consecutive lights-out performance, coming on in relief to pitch five innings, allowing no runs and just two hits while striking out ten batters, this after a solid six-plus innings from starter Ali Graham who allowed just one earned on four hits.

The Beacons got on the board first as Jessica Garner hit a triple down the right field line and came home to score as the throw to third base was offline.

The Owls came up with the tying run in the third when Olivia Lethlean scored on an error.

NCU took a 2-1 lead in the fourth and the teams traded single runs in each half of the sixth, sending the Beacons into the top of the seventh with a 3-2 lead and a chance to claim the victory.

Sabrina Guerra came on in relief of starter Emma Jegtvig to begin the inning but gave up a lead-off walk before Sotelo hit a game-tying single up the middle.

The teams played through three scoreless bonus innings before Sotelo broke through again with the winner in the 11th.

Graham, Sotelo and Olivia Lethlean had three-hits each to lead the Owls.

Game 2 Oregon Tech 11 Northwest Christian 1

The non-conference fourth game of the series quickly turned into a blow-out as the Owls tagged NCU starter Shay Shropshire (0-9) for five runs in the first inning. The visitors went on to add three more in the fourth and three in the seventh while the Beacons posted just one run.

Loryn Williams (5-1) went the distance for Oregon Tech, striking out seven batters and scattering six hits. Graham and Kiahna Brown each hit long balls in the contest with Brown's coming on the very first pitch of the game. Graham collected three hits in the game, giving her six on the day while Baylee Wyscaver went 3-for-5 with three doubles and three RBI. McKenna Armantrout added a 2-for-5 day at the plate, collecting four RBI as she hit a bases-clearing double in the seventh.

The Owls will return home for a huge weekend next Friday and Saturday when they host No. 10 Corban University at John and Lois Stillwell Stadium. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 2:00 pm with an 11:00 am start on Saturday.
