KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – It has been 25 months to the day since No. 9 Eastern Oregon lost their last Cascade Conference game. That loss came at the hands of the Oregon Tech Lady Owls on January 15, 2017. History repeated itself as the Lady Owls not only broke the Mountaineers' 48-game conference win streak, but their 24-game win streak this season with the 74-69 victory on Friday night at Danny Miles Court, pushing their own win streak to 11.
"Tonight our girls were confident and very determined," said Head Coach
Scott Meredith. "They limited Eastern to 1-11 from the 3-point line and that was a huge factor. They rebounded well and had great overall team defense. knocking down 21 of 24 free throws made all the difference at the offensive end."
Oregon Tech suffered in the first quarter as EOU outscored them 17-11 with an 8-0 run, boosting them ahead early in the game and an 8-2 run keeping them there.
However, a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Sophomore
Abby Kreiser gave the Owls renewed energy as they pushed into the second stanza with a 6-0 run to tie the game.
Kreiser went on to lead Tech with 16 points, with Freshman
Courtney Clemmer adding another 13 as well as seven rebounds. Senior
Megan Morris tallied another 10, and Sophomore
Amanda Constant added nine.
Senior
Nohea Waiwaiole notched six points and also led the Owls to a 14-9 assist advantage with six of her own.
Eastern Oregon managed to come back at the end of the second, reclaiming the lead and going into the third quarter strong to earn their largest lead of 10 points before OIT pulled off an 11-2 run to tie the score. Oregon Tech opened the fourth with a 7-0 run, and from there they held the lead to the end of the game.
Maya Ah You Dias led the Mountaineers and took game high honors with 18 points, along with six rebounds and assists. Julia Hanni and Maren Herrud notched 14 each, and Emma Logan grabbed six rebounds.
The Lady Owls held a 36-29 rebounding advantage.
Despite ranking third in NAIA's three-point percentage, EOU struggled from long range, only shooting 9.1% on the night compared to a 20% average from OIT.
Tech forced 22 turnovers while only committing 21 of their own, though Eastern outscored them 22-12 in points off turnovers.
The Lady Owls will play the College of Idaho in their last regular game of the season on Saturday night at 5:30 pm at Danny Miles Court and will be hosting a first-round playoff games in the CCC Quarterfinals on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm at Danny Miles Court.
