REDDING, Calif. – With double-digit efforts from juniors
Amanda Constant and
Abby Kreiser, Oregon Tech (8-4, 2-0 CCC) rode past Simpson University (1-12) 60-52 on Friday night in non-conference action to extend their win streak to seven straight.
"It was quite a battle tonight," said Oregon Tech Head Coach
Scott Meredith. "Simpson gave us their best and knocked down some 3's in the first half and had a little momentum. But even though we had a sluggish first half, we were only down by 5. Our defense clamped down in the 3rd quarter, allowing only 6 points and that's when we took control. Free throws down the stretch sealed it and I'm really happy to get out with a win.
The Red Hawks opened up the first with a 10-3 run to take an early lead and ended the quarter with a 17-10 advantage. Three-pointers from Blanca Casamort Vila and Precious Jackson boosted Simpson's lead to 13 in the middle of the second, but the Lady Owls dropped it to only five by the end of the half with a 9-1 run.
Both teams struggled to score in the third as they struggled to hold onto the ball and make shots. Constant chipped away at the score over the first five minutes, going 6-for-0 to put Tech in the lead for the first time in the game.
A Constant layup and a 3-point basket from freshman
Eastyn Reeves opened up the fourth and a 7-0 run dominated by sophomore
Kylie Meadows sent the Owls to their largest lead of 12 before the team coasted to victory.
Constant scored 15 points and made five boards in the game, while Kreiser came off the bench to notch 13 points and four steals. Freshman
Makaila Napoleon added six points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Red Hawks were led by Alli Ramelli, who scored 11 and made four steals and assists. Blanca Casamort Vila followed with nine points and Brianna Clark added another eight and four rebounds.
Tech forced 20 turnovers and led 14-10 off turnovers. The Owls also held a 37-29 rebounding edge and shot at 81% from the charity stripe.
Simpson shot 6-of-15 from long range for a 40% average.
The Lady Owls will return to Klamath Falls next weekend for two Cascade Conference games, taking on College of Idaho at 5:30pm on Friday and No. 18 Eastern Oregon at 5:30pm on Saturday.
