MCMINNVILLE, Ore. – Molly Danielson led the Wildcats of Linfield College (2-0) to an 89-75 victory over No. 21 ranked Oregon Tech (1-3) with a 28-point 14-rebound double-double Sunday night at Ted Wilson Gym.
"We got off to a great start in the first quarter - executing our offense and taking advantage of some mismatches inside," said Oregon Tech Head Coach
Scott Meredith. "However, Linfield shot well at home and got better as the game went on. We went stone cold in the 3rd quarter going 1-16 and it got away from us during that span. We will regroup for our tournament next weekend."
The Lady Owls seemed to have the game in the first, passing Linfield early on with a 13-4 run to end the period on a 22-16 advantage. However, the Wildcats took control in the second, going 10-for-2 to close the quarter at a three-point advantage over Tech.
Linfield College pulled even further ahead in the third stanza, boosting up their defense to hold the Owls to only five points and scoring 19 of their own.
Oregon Tech went on the offensive in the final stanza, riding a 13-3 run to a 32-29 advantage in the quarter but falling short of taking the game.
Freshman
Maddyson Tull scored 12 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to earn a double-double for the Lady Owls. Sophomore
Kristin Farrell scored a game-high 14 points with three of OIT's five long range baskets, and juniors
Amanda Constant and
Abby Kreiser each scored nine.
Kory Oleson of the Wildcats scored another double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Delaney Ragan added another 17 points and Shasta Lofgren scored another 10. Danielson and Jordyn Feinauer each tallied five assists, with Feinauer also nabbing another eight points.
Tech opened the game with a 43% shooting average in the first half, but a 20% average in the second dropped them to 33% overall while Linfield shot at 49%.
Linfield College held an 18-11 assisting advantage and a 44-34 edge in the paint. Though both teams suffered 13 turnovers, the Wildcats were able to better capitalize on the Owls mistakes, taking a 19-9 advantage off turnovers.
Oregon Tech took a 31-15 advantage from their bench and a 44-40 rebounding edge.
The Lady Owls will return to Klamath Falls for the Lithia-Oregon Tech Classic next weekend, facing off against UC Merced on Friday and Simpson University on Saturday, with both games taking place at 5:30pm at Danny Miles Court.
