REDDING, Calif. – The Oregon Tech baseball team opened up the 2019 season dropping a 7-6 decision to host Simpson University in the season opener for both teams Saturday afternoon in game one at Tiger Filed. The Owls dropped game two double-header 6-5 in 10-innings.

Tech jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning on a couple walks and an RBI single by
Josh Kallstrom.
The Red Hawks answered with two-runs of their own in the bottom of the 4
th taking advantage of a pair of walks, a pair of stolen bases, a sac bunt and one hit.
Things looked better for the visiting Owls as they scored 4-runs in the top of the 5
th highlighted by an
Austin Zavala two-run home run to take a 6-2 lead.
Simpson added a run in the bottom of the 5
th and then scored 4-runs including the game winner in the bottom of the 7
th as they held on for the 7-6 win.
Andrew Cisneros picked up the win in relief for Simpson while
Logan Nousen was pegged with the loss for the Owls.
Each team had 10-hits in the game with Zavala leading the Owls with 2-hits, 2-runs, and 2-RBI.
Micah Jio, and
Austin Florez each added two-hits in the loss.
Simpson was led by Derick Kuhn who had 2-hits, 2-runs, and 3-RBI with Damien Chavez, and Sam Nakata adding two hits apiece in the win.
Game 2 Simpson 6 Oregon Tech 5 (10-innings)
The game was suspended Saturday night in the top of the 10th when the lights malfunctioned and wouldn't stay on. The game was resumed Sunday at 11:00 am.
After Tech failed to score in the top of the 10th.
Simpson broke-up the tie in the bottom of the 10th scoring the game winning run on an OIT error, a sacrifice bunt, then an RBI single off the bat of Derick Kuhn.
Tech scored 5-runs on 7-hits in the game but had three costly errors.
