Lady Owls and Bobcats Play to a 2-2 Draw

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – One hundred and ten minutes were not enough time to decide today's women's soccer match between Oregon Tech and UC Merced.  The teams played to a 2-2, two overtime tie Saturday at the OIT Soccer Field. Oregon Tech moves to 2-1-1 on the young season while the Bobcats move to 1-2-1 with today's result.

"Our team knows this was a disappointing draw against a very good Merced team," said Head Coach Brandon Porter. "We let one slip away, but hopefully learned a couple of very valuable lessons about a commitment team defending and shape. The good news is that we get to immediately apply these lessons to another quality opponent in Menlo tomorrow."

Tech took the early lead when Haley Janky scored off a great pass from Emily Hillestad into the upper left corner giving the Hooter the 1-0 lead in the 17th minute.

UCM tied the game just 10 minutes later when Noodles Sidhu scored unassisted into the bottom left corner of the OIT goal from just outside the box.

Tech took a 2-1 lead in the 30 minute when Ellie Quercia (Pictured No. 22) hit a nice shot off a deflection into the top left corner from just inside the box.

UC Merced tied the game in the second half as Emily Burnett got past the OIT defense and finished in the upper left corner of the OIT goal from just inside the 18.

Regulation ended with neither team getting any further good opportunities to score.

In overtime, UC Merced controlled the majority of possession, but neither team was able to generate much offense as the game ended in a 2-2 draw.

For the game, Tech held a 21-17 advantage in shots and a slight 8-7 edge in shots on goal.

Tech will have a quick turnaround as they play Menlo College Sunday at 11:00 am at the OIT Soccer Field.
