LA GRANDE, Ore. – Freshman Mackinley Gregus of Eastern Oregon (6-1-1, 2-1-1) scored the golden goal with just 23 seconds remaining in the first overtime as the Mountaineers claimed a 3-2 Cascade Conference win over Oregon Tech (4-2-2, 1-1-1) Sunday afternoon at Community Stadium.
Head Coach
Brandon Porter on today's loss, "I was pleased with the effort but we just weren't sharp enough in the overtime to get the result we wanted. But credit to Eastern, there's a reason they are the defending conference champions, they know how to fight back. I know our ladies are excited to get to work."
Tech's
Haley Janky gave the Owls the early 1-0 lead as she took a
Cassidy Gosvener cross and scored in the 20
th minute with the half's only goal. Tech out-shot EOU 8-6 in the first half.
Eastern then tied the game at 1-1 in the 49
th minute as Taylor Boyer converted a Penalty Kick.
Gosvener than scored her second goal of the year taking a
Salyna Blue pass and giving the Owls a 2-1 lead in the 66
th minute.
The rest of the game belonged to EOU as Boyer scored her second goal of the day in the 76
th minute to force overtime where Gregus scored the game winner for the Mountaineers who held a 12-4 advantage in shots after halftime.
The Lady Owls return for two games this Friday and Saturday as they host Corban University and Northwest Christian University respectively at 1:30 pm at the OIT Soccer Field.
