CALDWELL, Idaho – Oregon Tech placed three golfers in the Top-5 to take the Day 1 lead while the OIT men trail UBC in the second Cascade Conference golf event of the season, the College of Idaho Invitational at TimberStone Golf Course.
The Lady Owls recorded a team score of 305 on the 6,108-yard track, two strokes clear of British Columbia – ranked No. 4 in the preseason NAIA Top-25 poll.
OIT's
Ashley Zhu (pictured) will take a one-stroke lead into the final round, overcoming a double-bogey on her opening hole to shoot a 2-over-par 74. UBC's Kate Johnson is alone in second at 3-over-par (75) – using a hole-out from the fairway on the Par-4 10th-hole for the lone eagle of the morning.
Payton Canon and
Aerin Song of Tech tied for third at 4-over 76, with three golfers, Cecile Kwon and Shania Remandaban of UBC, and Northwest Nazarene's Stephanie Miller, tied for fifth, three strokes back.
"While UBC continues to show why they are an elite team in the NAIA, our men are playing well and competing at a high level," said Head Coach
Jeff Corkill. "On the women's side the freshmen are competing at a high level and continue to impress the conference with the level they are at. Ashely Zhu double bogies her starting hole and ends up finishing in the lead at 2 over par."
On the men's side, OIT is in 2
nd place (290, 289) with a 579 two-round total and are three over par. UBC has three golfers in the top four as they lead the tournament at 560 and enjoy a 14-stroke lead over the Owls.

th (143) with
Alejandro Armijo and
Brandon Erickson lurking in 7
th place (145) nine strokes behind the leader, Andrew Harrison of UBC.
The final round of the tournament is set for tomorrow with a 7:30 am (Pacific) shot-gun start.

Men team scored - British Columbia 560, Oregon Tech 579, Northwest Christian 584, Corban 590, Walla Walla 602, Northwest Christian "B" 618, Warner Pacific 623.
