Creswell, Ore. – The Oregon Tech women finished in a first place tie with No. 4 UBC; the Hustlin' Owl men finished in 2nd place behind No.12 UBC by 7-strokes but defeated No.11 Victoria (B.C.) by 18-strokes as the final round of play wrapped-up at the Northwest Christian Invite held at the Emerald Valley Golf Course Tuesday.
 
"I am pleased with the way we competed in our first tournament of the year," said Head Coach Jeff Corkill. "The UBC Men and Women are two very good NAIA teams that we will be facing all year. We showed that we can compete with them."
 
Tech's Stephanie Koza finished 2nd as she fired a pair of 77's (154) for the tournament, three strokes behind Kelly Hellman of UBC who won individual honors with her two-day total of 151 (74, 77).  Freshman Aerin Song and Payton Canon finished tied for 6th as Song fired a final round 77 while Canon slipped down from 2nd with her final round 84. All six OIT golfers finished in the top 25 with fellow Freshman Ashley Zhu finishing 10th after her final round 81 followed by Kylie Collom at 15th with nice final round of 79. Tech Sophomore Darby Twight finished in a tie for 23rd out of 44 with her two-round total of 177.  
 
For the men, OIT Freshman Alejandro Armijo led the Owls as he finished in 3rd with a three round total of 221 just 7-strokes behind Andrew Harrison of UBC who took home Individual Honors.
 
Tech's Mayson Tibbs finished tied for 7th (226), while OIT's Cameron Barnhardt and Jared McBride finished tied for 14th (231).
 
Up next: The Oregon Tech golf teams will travel to Caldwell, Idaho next Monday and Tuesday, September 17 & 18 for the College of Idaho Invitational held at Timberstone G.C.
