Redding, Cali. - The Oregon Tech Owls pick up two wins on the day over the Redhawks of Simpson University. On the strength of
Doug Molzahn and the Tech bullpen, Tech out hit Simpson 37 to 16, driving in a total of 29 runs on day 1 of the double-header matchup.
Game 1 –
The Owls came out swinging in the 1
st inning, picking up their first run of the game on a homerun by
Josh Kallstrom. The 2
nd inning would see Tech drive in 4 more runs on 5 hits pushing the lead to 5-0.
The 4
th and 5
th innings brought about another 6-runs scored, this time on 9 hits, with
Kai Fong starting things off hitting a triple and scoring on a deep single by
Ryan Riepma in the 4th. The 5
th had three-singles, two-doubles and one-triple for the additional runs scored.
The 8
th and 9
th innings had Tech score their final 6-runs of the game on 4 hits and 4 bases earned. The Redhawks scored 1-run in the 8
th and 3-runs in the 9
th inning to end the game with a final score of 17-4.
Pitcher
Doug Molzahn picks up the win for Tech, pitching 8 innings while giving up 8 hits and jus 1 run.
Ryan Riepma led the way from the plate with 2-runs on 4-hits, while driving in 3 RBIs.
Micah Jio had 1-run, on 3-hits and 4 RBIs.
Game 2 –
The second game of the day brought out the best in the Owls during the 1
st inning, batting through the order and picking up 6-runs on 6-hits. 2 singles, 3 doubles and a 3-run home run by
Ryan Riepma saw Tech take an early 6-0 lead.
In the 2
nd inning, Tech picked up 1 additional run, while giving up 3-runs to Simpson on 3-hits.
The 5
th inning had Tech score an additional 2-runs, while Simpson replied in the 7
th inning with 2-runs of their own.
The game concluded with the score 12-5, seeing the Owls pick up their second win of the day.
Ben Hood was credited with the win from the mound, while
Chase Wago pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs.
Austin Zavala and
Ryan Riepma brought in 3 RBIs each, driving in half of the teams runs for the game.
The Oregon Tech Owls are now 5-5 on the season and will head back to Simpson University tomorrow, Sunday, for another double-header with the Redhawks, starting at 12:00om.
