Owls Split with Pioneers

LANCASTER, Calif. – Oregon Tech split its opening series at Antelope Valley Saturday afternoon, losing the game 1, 6-5 in 10-innings and winning game 2, 11-3 at The Hanger. The Owls move to 7-7 on the year and the Pioneers moving to 5-4 overall with today's split.
 
Game 1. Antelope Valley 6 Oregon Tech 5 (10-innings)
 
After falling behind 5-1 early, Oregon Tech scored 4 runs in the 7th inning to tie the game and force extra innings only to have the Pioneers Tyler Pittmon hit a walk-off HR in the bottom of the 10th.
 
Austin Zavala and Alex Poltz had two hits each to lead the Owls in the loss.
 
Tech's Ace Doug Molzahn struggled, giving up 5-runs and 8-hits in 6-innings of work. Trask Telesmanich was pegged with the loss, going an inning and a third, giving up the game winner.
 
Game 2. Oregon Tech 11 Antelope Valley 3 (7-innings)
 
The Hustlin' Owls rebounded nicely in the night cap, pounding out 16-hits and 11-runs in the win led by Austin Zavala who was 5-for-5 at the plate.
 
UAV took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Pittman double.
 
Tech answered with 3-runs in the top of the 2nd on 3-hits highlighted by a Ryan Riepma RBI triple.
 
The Owls then took a 7-1 lead with four more runs in the top of the 3rd on 3-hits and were aided by two Pioneer errors.
 
Each team added a run in their next at bats to make it an 8-2 game entering the top of the 5th. The Owls sealed the win with two more runs in the 5th and one more run in the 6th as they won 11-3.
 
Tech's Chase Wago improved to 2-1 on the year as he picked up the win on the bump.
 
The two team will conclude the series Sunday with a double-header slated to begin at 11:00 am.
