SANTA CRUZ, Calif.– Oregon Tech's Lady Owls narrowly beat UC Santa Cruz at the Kaiser Permanente Arena on Friday night, with a final score of 74-71, bringing them to 3-1 on the season.
Though tied at the end of the first quarter, the Owls took the lead in the second quarter and kept it throughout most of the game, ultimately ending with their three-point advantage.
Santa Cruz led with three-pointers, scoring 11 out of 33 throughout the course of the game compared to a single long-range shot from Tech, scored by Sophomore Amanda Constant.
Tech, however, excelled in rebounds, gaining 48 to Santa Cruz's 32. Seniors Bailey Nelson and Nohea Waiwaiole led the rebounding effort, earning 10 and 9, respectively. Waiwaiole also led the Owls in points, earning 16, with Sophomore Amanda Constant contributing 12.
The free-throw line also played an important role in this game, giving the Owls 25 points to Santa Cruz's 10.
The Lady Owls will remain in California this weekend to play UC Merced on Saturday at 5:30 pm and Pacific Union on Sunday at 5:00 pm.
