KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech Volleyball Team will kick-off Cascade Conference play with its home openers this weekend at Danny Miles Court against two of the hottest teams in the NAIA.
Friday night the Owls will play host to 8-0 and No. 25 ranked College of Idaho at 7:00 pm. Of the eight wins this season, six have been against teams with a winning record and four have been against teams ranked in the preseason NAIA Top-25. C of I has defeated both No. 7 Westmont and No. 20 Bellevue in four sets, while sweeping matches against both No. 10 Grand View and No. 23 Carroll College.
As a team, C of I holds the top position in five of the six major statistical categories heading into Cascade Conference play. The Yotes lead the league in hitting percentage (.247), kills per set (14.83), assists per set (14.03), aces per set (2.03) and digs per set (16.38), while ranking second in blocks per set (2.31).
Things don't get any easier for Tech as perennial powerhouse Eastern Oregon comes calling Saturday night at 5:00 pm. The Mountaineers are winners of three straight CCC regular-season championships and captured the CCC tournament title last year for the first time.
EOU is led by senior outside hitter Amanda Miller. Miller was selected last week as the CCC Player of the week as she led the No. 11 EOU volleyball team to a perfect 4-0 record over the weekend at the Big Sky Invitational, earning a share of the tournament title. The Mountaineers (6-3) swept three of their opponents and defeated two ranked opponents in No. 14 Montana Tech and No. 10 Grand View.
The senior out of Kennewick, Washington was outstanding in the four matches, recording 51 total kills and a .339 hitting percentage. Miller finished with a season-best 17 kills in the five-set victory over Grand View on Saturday.
Oregon Tech is 2-1 on the year heading into this weekend's action. The Lady Owls return five starters, and 9 overall and will look to improve on an 8-12 (8th place) mark in Cascade Collegiate Conference action and get the Owls into the postseason.
Admission for all home fall sports events will be $4 adults, children 6 and over $2, seniors and military $2, children under 6 and OIT students free.
Because of construction on the Oregon Tech campus, fans coming to Friday and Saturday's games are encouraged to park on the north side of Campus on Danny Miles Way, next to the track and behind the library.
