REDDING, Calif. -  The Oregon Tech Volleyball Team opened up the 2017 season with a pair of 3-0 wins at the Simpson Tournament Thursday afternoon. Tech won its first match 25-13, 25-11, 25-16 over West Coast Baptist then swept the hosts Simpson 25-20, 25-8, 25-17 to improve to 2-0 on the year.

Head Coach Andrew Clifton, "I am really happy with the way we started our season today. We needed to improve our offense from last season and we have done that with training and recruiting. We still have things to work on, but it's obvious that the hard work the team put in this off season is starting to pay off."
 
Match 1 Oregon Tech 3 West Coast Baptist 0, (25-13, 25-11, 25-16)
 
In the first match, the Tech attack was led by Bailey Nelson and Chase Bohman with 8-kills each with Whitney Webster adding 7-kills in the 3 set sweep of West Coast Baptist.
 
In the first set Tech had 13 kills with only 1 error for a .667 kill percentage. That dropped to .278 in set 2 and .069 in set 3.
 
Nelson also led the Owls with 6 service aces followed by Jaime Toedtemeier with three.
 
Waverly Green had 18 set assists and 2 blocks to lead the Owls in each category.
 
Isabella Smith had 12 digs to lead the defensive efforts.
 
Match 2 Oregon Tech 3 Simpson University 0 (25-20, 25-8, 25-17)
 
In the second match Bohman was on fire, leading the Owls with 16 kills on 26 attempts for a kill percentage of .577. Cheyanne Laber added 6 kills with Whitney Webster chipping in 4 kills in the win.
 
Toedtemeier led the Owls with 26 assists and 8 digs. Isabella Smith added 8 digs with Nelson adding 7 in the win.
 
Oregon Tech will play William Jessup University tomorrow at 1:30 pm to wrap up the Simpson Tournament.
